Hugging a tree is healing.
Any time, any place - I love to hug trees!
About Jacqueline

For thirteen years I worked in the Swiss School System as a teacher and educator. You can imagine that my favourite topic was art.

One evening, after a long day of parent-teacher meetings I noticed that I often spoke to the parents as an advocate for their children and as a marriage counsellor (although I had no training). (smile)

That evening I realized that I liked to help people and was good at it. I decided to go back to school myself and train as an art therapist. Yes, art had to be a part of it!

After graduating from the Eva Brenner Institute of Art Therapy I established my practice in Bülach and Zürich, Switzerland where I helped implement an art therapy program for children with war trauma and worked closely with the School Psychology Services.

In 2003 I traveled to Nova Scotia to visit a friend. Little did I know what would happen next. I fell in love with a Cape Bretoner... and the rest is history. (smile)

Immigrating to Nova Scotia was a joyful and a difficult step at the same time. Adjusting to the new surrounding with almost no friends near by was a challenge. Plus I learned never ever to try to translate a Swiss joke into English. It just doesn’t work.

I feel that my humour and artful way of creating a new life with my partner have been my strength in transitioning.

I am grateful for the hands that reached out to me and the new connections that I was able to make.

Today, I am the one that is able to reach out to others. To help them in their transition to create new purpose, while honouring what they had to leave behind.

Various work opportunities have given me new insights, knowledge and extended expertise in the field of art therapy.

I have worked with the Autism Centre, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, facilitated Art Based Community Development Projects through grants from the 4C’s Foundation, facilitated art therapy in private schools, held Lunch and Learn sessions at the IWK Health Centre, lead workshops for the South Shore Recreation Professionals, the Bayers Westwood Family Resource Centre, the Northern Shared Chronic Pain Services and was able to present my program Healing For Grieving Hearts at the Canadian Art Therapy Association’s Annual Conference in October 2015 which was held in Halifax, NS.
