About

Hugging a tree is healing.
Any time, any place - I love to hug trees!
Jacqueline Steudler

Jacqueline Steudler helps women gently lift the layers of grief after the death of a loved one. Her approach uses mindfulness and art therapy to honour the love they shared and find new purpose.

Jacqueline lost her mother in 2013. A long time afterwards she felt lonely, even if she was with her family or out with friends. There was this unexplainable loneliness.

The person that knew her the best was gone. There was no sharing anymore and there was also regret about her living far away.

Since her mother's death, Jacqueline appreciates the time with other family members. She has found and new deeper connection to her brother. Family members laugh with her when she shares a funny memory of her mother.

They all have traveled together.

Jacqueline's background in art therapy has helped her to move forward in her own grieving process. It has helped her to reconcile the good and the difficult memories. It has brought a better understanding of what she needs to support herself.

Her grief experience has led her to adjust her work as an art therapist. She is helping other women through their unique grieving process. She is holding a safe space, asks the (sometimes) difficult questions, and is there every step of the way.  Jacqueline's focus is to reignite the women's own strength and healing power.

You can read more about her journey here.

Jacqueline worked with the Autism Centre and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. She facilitated Art Based Community Development Projects through grants from the 4C’s Foundation. Other engagements included: Lunch and Learn sessions at the IWK Health Centre, workshops for the South Shore Recreation Professionals, the Bayers Westwood Family Resource Centre and the Northern Shared Chronic Pain Services. Jacqueline worked with a group of L'Arche residents and with members of the Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes. She presented her program 'Healing For Grieving Hearts' at the 2015 Canadian Art Therapy Association’s Annual Conference.

I wish I had done the program sooner!!! I really thought that I didn't need help facing my pain, but I was really just very good at distracting myself.

Jacqueline’s Healing for Grieving Hearts program was an oasis in my life at a time when I was grieving two losses: the loss of a beloved pet, and the loss of a significant relationship (through conflict, not death). Jacqueline’s caring presence and guidance, together with the exercises she created for me, created a very safe space to voice and explore my difficult feelings. I loved how the exercises helped me get out of my head, and into the truth in my heart. Through the program I found peace and clarity, and a renewed sense of direction in my own life.
